Tech Tip #98.009
02/27/91
Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF):
Here are the Mean Time Between Failure calculations for SR17 (MKIII)
386, and SR20(SX-CACHE) motherboards.
These figures were calculated using the following guide lines:
1. Calculated using TR-NWT-000332 Reliability Prediction by
by Bellcore, Issue 3, Sept. 1990, 'Reliability Prediction Procedure
for Electronic Equipment' a module of RQGR, TR-TSY-000796.
2. Assume a black box estimate with 50% stress, temperature=40
degrees centigrade, no device burn-in.
3. Assumes quality level I:
This level is assign to commercial-grade devices that are
procured and used thorough device qualification, or
lot-to-lot controls by equipment supplier.
However:
a: Steps must be taken to ensure that the conponents are
are compatible with the design and manufacturing process.
b. An effective feedback and corrective action program must be
in place to identify and resolve problems quickly in
manufacture and in the field.
SX-CACHE MOTHERBOARD:
76,000 Hours MTBF : No Memory
36,000 Hours MTBF : 256k Type Memory
18,000 Hours MTBF : 1M Type Memory
MKIII 386 MOTHERBOARD:
62,000 Hours MTBF : No Memory
32,000 Hours MTBF : 256k Type Memory
16,000 Hours MTBF : 1M Type Memory
